Chairman Charlie Taylor

Most will agree that Charlie Taylor deserves his own page on this site. He is well known in Lancashire and further afield for his contribution, not just to Tyldesley band but the brass band movement itself. This is mainly because of his home brass tuition that has nurtured hundreds of brass players. Some still play in Tyldesley 40 years after first stepping into Charlies house for a lesson as kids. Some move away in the UK or abroad but still keep in touch through their new bands. Some have gone on to joining Championship bands and become names in their own right.

Charlie is 83 and a retired local coal pit mechanical fitter. He has done over 65 years service with the band, countless jobs, and thousands of trips in our band van preparing for jobs and picking up players.

TreasurerPat Lummis

Pat Lummis is originally from London and moved to Tyldesley 40 years ago. He's been involved in the band for over 15 years when his Book Makers business (Classic Racing) became the bands sponsor and we became known as the Classic Racing Tyldesley Band. Many contest success came with that name and Pat still is an enormous asset to the organisation of the band.

His contact details can be found on the contacts page if you wish to book the band for your function.

LibrarianTom Welsh

Tom came to the band as a much needed librarian 5 years ago. He's been involved in local bands most of his life and has close ties with the Salford University Music Department. Tom does more than a librarians job, he helps organise and prepare our concerts and looks after the band room.
